Start and Finish:

All routes start and finish in the Old Creamery Yard.

Registration Sticker:

At registration on the morning of the cycle all cyclists will be given a registration Sticker. This sticker will also contain emergency contact phone numbers in case of an accident or breakdown.

Junctions:

While we will try to have most junctions marshalled there may be some junctions not marshalled. Unless the marshalls state very clearly that the junction is safe to go through DO NOT assume the right of way. The marshals are there for directional assistance and all cyclists must use their own judgement regarding their safety at junctions. Remember that normal rules of the road apply at all times.

Route Details:

  • All junctions are marked on the road with yellow arrows with blue surround and logo.
  • There will also be directional signs at all major junctions.
  • There will be a lead vehicle, sweeper van and Ambulance Service on both routes for your safety and technical assistance.
  • Normal rules of the road apply at all times.
  • Obey and respect the marshals. Remember they are there for your safety.
  • No roads will be closed, so cycle with care.
  • It is NOT a race and cyclists may go at their own pace.
  • Cycle no more than two abreast and be considerate of other road users.

Food Stops:

  • Tea/Coffee will be served  from 8:00am in The Old Creamery before the start of the cycle. So especially if you are travelling a long distance you will be able to grab a quick cuppa and bite to eat before you set off on the cycle.
  • The main food stop on the Challenge Route (approximately half way) is at Araglin GAA Club. Here you get tea/coffee, water, sandwiches bananas and cakes.
  • The food stop for the shorter Tour Route will be at the Christian Brothers School, Mitchelstown. Please take care entering the CBS grounds and exiting onto the main road afterwards.
  • At the finish in Kildorrery there will be plenty of food for everyone, so make sure to come in for a chat with your fellow participants afterwards.

Please observe EXTREME CAUTION at the following places:

Glanworth (approx 8km): Ramps on entering the Village from the Kildorrery side. Caution on crossing the extremely narrow Glanworth Bridge. (both routes)

Molly Barrys Cross (Approx. 15.7km): Both routes will be crossing the busy R639. Please obey the marshals at this junction. (both routes)

Mountain Barracks to Pollardstown (26km-30km): There is a fast descent after the mountain Barracks as far as Pollardstown where the Challenge route will be turning right. This junction is at a bend on the road so extreme caution is needed. Please obey the marshals who will direct you.(both routes)

Ballyporeen-Araglin (48.5Km-52Km): After the climb out of Ballyporeen, exercise caution on the series of sharp bends on the descent to the food stop at Araglin

Glocca Morra: (75.5Km) Caution required turning left onto R639

Junction 12 M8 Motorway (77.5Km):There is a fast descent to the roundabout at junction 12 (Mitchelstown South). Cyclists must slow down before this junction as they will have to give way to traffic from their right that are joining the M8. Caution is also needed at the next roundabout where traffic exiting off the M8 will be coming up the exit ramp from your left as you enter this roundabout. (Challenge Route)
